ITCHY SCALP?

okay my sister scratches her head and the skin comes off [like little flakes] and sometimes the root and the actual one strand of hair itself. she needs help and what can she do to prevent her scalp form itching and scratching?

ITCHY SCALP?
using scalp moisturizer will help, and try washing her hair with Head'n'Shoulders shampoo. My cousin has the same problem, but when she uses scalp treatment it works. Using Vaseline does help somewhat.
Reply:tell her to wash her hair. my girlfriend's older sister doesnt wash her hair alot and thats what happens.
Reply:See a doc. It may be psoriasis... she could try using a tar shampoo in the meantime and see if it works. They stink, but they DO work. My mom has psoriasis of the scalp and swears by the Neutrogena tar shampoo.

"Psoriasis [pronounced sore-EYE-ah-sis] is a noncontagious, lifelong skin disease that has been diagnosed in 4.5 million adults in the United States.

The most common form, plaque [plak] psoriasis, appears as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells, called scale.

Scalp psoriasis can be very mild, with slight, fine scaling. It can also be very severe with thick, crusted plaques covering the entire scalp, which commonly can cause hair loss. Psoriasis can extend beyond the hairline onto the forehead, the back of the neck and around the ears (a common area). Most of the time, people with scalp psoriasis have psoriasis on other parts of their body as well. But for some, the scalp is the only affected area."

Reply:It sounds like your sister may have an allergy to something she's using in her hair. The best thing to do is suggest to your sister that she go to her doctor and have it checked out. It could be something medical. I hope this helps you out.
Reply:she has dandruff it normal for extremly dry hair she should use head and shoulders to get rid of it,then change her shampoo and conditioner she cant go rwrong with pantene prov and she can use a leave in conditioner that will nurture her hair call infusion 23
Reply:She can wash hair and dry thoroughly, then apply a product called Queen Helene Conditioning Creme. Leave it on under a shower cap for 4 hours or more and rinse out. The hair and scalp is completely nourished and moisturized. You will have silky smooth fresh smelling hair with no itch. The best part, its under $5.00 for a giant tub of it at any local drugstore
