My cat has itchy scabs?

he has them all year round. they first started near his tail on his back and they are now on the nape of his neck and on his stomach. we try to brush him everyday because we figured he can't reach to scratch and clean the scabs. he really likes it but the scabs don't go away. and even if you just put your hand on his back he'll start scratching and biting his back.

it's been happening for a while and we took him to the vet who said he was too fat and fat cats are prone to skin irritations. so he had to lose weight. and another time we went to the vet he said it was dry skin and to give him a bath with special shampoo and that didn't really work.

we use flea stuff on him every few months and he doesn't go outside...

i feel bad for him so i want to help him but so far the vets haven't given us any successful solutions...

My cat has itchy scabs?
Fleas would be the first thought, but if he is medicated, I don't think that is the problem.

Do you use anything with fragrance in the home, carpet freshener, air freshener, or laundry detergent and softener that could have been used for his bedding or your bedding if he sleeps with you?

The next thing I would check is his food, what does he eat? Could there be a dye or preservative in there that he is sensitive to? Does he eat canned or dry?

My sis-in-law's kitty gets these scabby sores, but just on his head. The vet knows it is an allergy, just haven't figured out to what.

Your kitty must be miserable with the sores all over his body. I hope you can find the source of the problem soon.

Purrs to you and kitty.
Reply:Vet go to a vet
Reply:flea bites
Reply:If your cat is flea-free, then I really think you should change vet for a 2nd opinion.

But to me, it seems like an allergic reaction to something.

If he's an indoor only cat, could it be the dry heat in the house?

Try putting kitty in a cooler room for awhile.

If it's the shampooing too often, then don't and maybe the soap is irritating him.

What flea program are you giving him? Drops back of neck or the pill (Program)? Switch to another type, maybe he's allergic to that.

But hopefully vet ruled out mange and other parasites.

Was he tested for thyroid or diabetes problems? Any blood tests given?

Hope these suggestions helped.
Reply:maybe its allergic to something in his food. or maybe even the litter.
Reply:My vet has always told me to use flea treatment every month. one of my cats had the same problem and that seemed to work. i suggest go to a different vet to make sure your cat is not allergic to anything.
